Accommodations in Japan

Hotels

Hotels are my preferred choice in big cities for a couple of huge reasons:

  1. Luggage Storage
  2. Luggage Delivery
  3. Transit Convenience

All Prefectures

  • Toyoko Inn – I love this nation-wide chain. It’s just a quick, easy, convenient business hotel with an English website and English speaking (ish) staff. Rooms are tiny, but clean and well-priced. Plus you get a free gift (socks, vanity kit, or some other things) and free breakfast. They’re usually located right by train stations.

Tokyo Ward

In Tokyo, I would choose to stay in Shibuya or Shinjuku wards, personally. I liked the Shibuya Excel Hotel for the sheer convenience.

Ryokan (旅館)

Minshuku(民宿)

Hostels in Japan tend to suck, sometimes they have curfews. Meh. I have nothing to add.

What…no AirBnb?

I’m honestly not a fan of AirBnB in Japan for a number of reasons that I’ve listed above. But it’s an interesting option for big groups, families, or meeting locals.

With that, here’s my AirBnB list: I HAVE NOT stayed at any of these places–I’m vetting based on location and interesting amenities or features.

Just watch out for people doing shady things like putting up serviced apartments as their own AirBnB. There’s a woman named Dee who does that in Tokyo. You can get those places MUCH, MUCH cheaper than from AirBnB.
